But beneath the splendour of the world's greatest kingdom lives another people—enslaved, beaten and expected to disappear into the machinery of empire.

Then a man named Moses returns to Egypt. And everything begins to change.

At its heart are Nefira, a palace record-keeper whose work brings her dangerously close to the official stories Egypt tells about itself, and Khepri, a military officer whose duty requires him to defend an order he increasingly struggles to understand. They are not standing beside Moses when history happens. They are standing on the other side.

As warnings become disasters and Egypt's confidence begins to fracture, Nefira and Khepri must navigate palace politics, military duty, frightened families, conflicting loyalties and the growing realisation that the world they were taught was permanent may not survive what is coming.

The Nile turns against them. The gods appear unable to answer. Pharaoh refuses to bend. And ordinary Egyptians are left to pay the price of decisions made far above them.

Rather than retelling Exodus only through its most famous figures, When the Gods Fell asks what those events might have looked like to the scribes, soldiers, mothers, servants, priests and children who woke each morning inside Egypt and watched the impossible become real.

What happens when history remembers the fall of an empire—but not everyone trapped inside it? What does faith look like from the other side of the miracle? And when everything you were taught to trust begins collapsing around you, what remains?
