The Son at the Gate

David survived Saul's pursuit. He was not prepared for the enemy who would come from his own house.

Absalom is everything a prince is expected to be. Beautiful. Charismatic. Royal. Loved. And increasingly convinced that Israel would be better governed by him.

But rebellion does not begin at the gate. It begins inside a family already carrying wounds nobody has healed.

The Son at the Gate enters the darkest years of David's household: Amnon, Tamar, Absalom, revenge, estrangement and the slow transformation of a wounded prince into a rival for his father's throne.

Absalom learns to stand where petitioners gather. He listens. He sympathises. He tells people what the king's government has failed to give them. And gradually he steals the hearts of Israel.

When rebellion finally comes, David must flee the city he once conquered. Father and son become opposing centres of a civil war neither can truly win. Because even if David saves his kingdom, he may lose his child. And even if Absalom gains the throne, he cannot undo the family history that drove him toward it.

This is not simply a story about rebellion. It is about what happens when justice is delayed inside a powerful family until grievance becomes inheritance.
