The Scarlet Cord

Before the walls fell, one woman chose which side of them she belonged on.

Jericho has walls thick enough to make kings hesitate. Its people have spent generations believing that stone can keep the world outside. Then Israel arrives.

Stories have travelled ahead of them—stories of Egypt, a sea divided, kingdoms defeated and a God unlike the gods Jericho knows. Inside the city, rulers prepare for war. Gates close. Soldiers watch the horizon. Ordinary families store what food they can and tell themselves the walls have never failed them before.

Rahab cannot afford such certainty. She has survived by understanding people, listening when others talk and recognising danger before it reaches her door. So when two Israelite spies enter Jericho and find themselves depending upon her protection, Rahab is forced into a decision that could destroy everything she has built.

Hide them, and she becomes a traitor. Expose them, and she may be surrendering her only chance to survive what is coming. What begins with a secret hidden beneath flax becomes a promise marked by a scarlet cord—and a choice whose consequences reach far beyond one household.

Across the series, the familiar biblical account expands into the lives of those trapped on both sides of Jericho's walls. Israelites carry memories of wilderness and promises they have not yet seen fulfilled. Canaanites confront rumours that become armies. Families divide over whether resistance, surrender or escape offers any hope. And Rahab must discover what faith means when believing costs something.

The Scarlet Cord is not simply the story of walls falling. It is the story of what happens before they do—and what becomes of the people who survive afterward.
