The Cities of the Plain

THE CITIES BURNED. THE PLAIN REMEMBERED.

The cities of the plain are marked for judgment, but one man pleads for mercy — and the deliverance of a few is remembered forever.

The Story

ABOUT THIS SERIES

Before fire fell from heaven, people still called these cities home.

Sodom and Gomorrah have become symbols. Before they were symbols, they were cities. Markets opened in the morning. Families gathered around tables. Merchants negotiated at gates. Wealth moved through powerful households. Strangers entered looking for shelter. People loved, desired, feared, exploited, celebrated and survived beneath walls they believed would still be standing tomorrow.

Then Abraham learns that judgement is coming. Cities on the Plain enters the world surrounding the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and refuses to reduce it to a distant spectacle of fire.

At its centre is the deeply human catastrophe surrounding Lot, his household and the cities among which he chose to live. Prosperity has made the plain desirable, but beneath its abundance lies a society in which violence, exploitation, power and contempt for the vulnerable have become increasingly ordinary.

Abraham pleads. Messengers enter Sodom. A household closes its doors against a city gathering outside. And suddenly escape becomes the only future left. Yet leaving a doomed city is not the same thing as leaving everything it has made of you.

The series explores judgement not only through those who escape, but through the people who have built lives on the plain: servants, neighbours, travellers, families, rulers and those whose suffering was invisible long before heaven answered it. Because when the cities finally burn, the most unsettling question is not simply why judgement came. It is how long people had learned to live with what made judgement necessary.
